PORTSMOUTH, New Hampshire, USA, July 11, 2022 – Cyclyx International, a consortium-based post-use plastic innovation company with a mission to increase the recyclability of plastic from 10% to 90%, has announced that Union Pacific Railroad (NYSE: UNP), one of the largest freight railroads in North America, has joined the consortium and Jacqueline Bendon, Vice President – Industrial, Marketing and Sales at Union Pacific will join the executive advisory board (EAB).
As Cyclyx continues to scale its ability to divert more waste plastic from the landfill and into its new member-based supply chain systems for recycling, expertise in circular economy logistics and cost effective transportation solutions is critical. As a leader in supply chain solutions, with extensive rail infrastructure in the Gulf Coast to support the petrochemical industry, Union Pacific is poised to bring logistics insights and solutions to the consortium.
Union Pacific is committed to environmental stewardship and developed a comprehensive environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy it calls Building a Sustainable Future 2030. Rail is three to four times more fuel efficient than trucks, and moving freight by train instead of truck reduces GHG emissions by up to 75%. As more recycled products move through the circular economy, rail transportation offers the economies of scale to meet the growing demand.
“Union Pacific is thrilled to join the Cyclyx consortium and partner with companies that share our commitment to ESG,” said Bendon. “Through Union Pacific’s vision of Building America by providing safe, reliable and efficient supply chain solutions, we are well positioned to help consortium members achieve the goal of dramatically increasing recycling rates.”
“We’re delighted to welcome Union Pacific to the consortium and Jacqueline to the EAB,” stated Joe Vaillancourt, CEO of Cyclyx. “As our membership grows, so does the demand for customized plastic feedstock that require the development of a supply chain for post-use plastics. We are excited to have Union Pacific join us so we can leverage their expertise and current operations as we develop and optimize our logistics programs to help meet our collective mission to increase the recyclability of plastic from 10% to 90%.”
